Privacy Policy

This explains what personal information Saam collects, why, and what you can do about it. Saam is run by me, Francois Jacobus Bothma, a sole proprietor in Cape Town, South Africa (operating as “Saam”). For the purposes of South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), I am the responsible party and the Information Officer, and you can reach me at hello@getsaam.com.

I've kept this short and honest, because Saam's approach to data is simple: I collect what's needed to run the service, I don't sell it, and I don't track you for advertising.

What I collect

• Your account: your email address (used to sign you in with a one-time link or code), your display name, your chosen colour, and an optional profile picture.
• What your family creates: the events, tasks, lists, meals, budget entries, and notes you and your family add. Because Saam is a family organiser, this can include information about other people in your household — including children — that you choose to enter.
• Payment information:handled by Paystack. I do not see or store your card details. I keep only Paystack's references (a customer code and a subscription code) and your plan status, so I know whether your family is on Premium.
• Basic technical information: if you send me a message through the contact form, I keep your message, email, and browser details so I can reply. Standard server logs are kept by my hosting providers to keep the service secure and running.

Why I collect it

To create your account and sign you in, to run the shared calendar, tasks, lists, and other features for your family, to take payment for Premium, to reply when you contact me, and to keep Saam secure. That's it.

Children's information

Saam accounts are for adults (18 and older). You can record information about children as part of your family, but children don't have their own accounts — a parent or guardian manages everything. POPIA treats children's information with extra care, and so do I. By entering a child's information, you confirm you're their parent or guardian, or are otherwise allowed to provide it.

Who else touches your data

I keep Saam lean, but a few trusted providers help run it. They process data on my instructions, only to provide their part of the service:

• Supabase — stores your account and family data, and handles sign-in.
• Vercel — hosts and serves the Saam app.
• Paystack — processes Premium payments.
• Resend — sends the sign-in and service emails.

Some of these providers are based outside South Africa, so your information may be processed in other countries. I only use providers that handle data responsibly. I don't sell your information to anyone, and I don't use it for advertising.

How long I keep it

I keep your data while your account and family exist.

When you delete your family, that deletion is immediate and permanent — all of its events, tasks, lists, meals, budget entries, and member links are erased and cannot be recovered. There's no hidden backup I can restore it from. If you leave a family, your membership is removed; if you were the only member, the family is deleted. If you'd like your account itself removed entirely, email me at hello@getsaam.com.

Your rights under POPIA

You can:

• ask what personal information I hold about you, and get a copy;
• ask me to correct or update it;
• ask me to delete it;
• object to how I'm using it.

Email me at hello@getsaam.com and I'll help. If you're ever unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).

Security

Your data is protected in transit by encryption (HTTPS), access to family data is restricted to that family's members, and card payments are handled entirely by Paystack. No online service can promise perfect security, but I take it seriously and will tell you honestly if something goes wrong that affects you.

Changes

If I change this policy, I'll post the new version here and update the date above.
